Easy Apple Crisp Recipe

I found this recipe and modified it a bit, and although I think it’s VERY good – it feels weird to call it a “crisp” when it contains no oatmeal.  Apple crisp – growing up, anyway- always had oatmeal.

This recipe is great because it only takes 4 good size apples, 5 if they’re smallish – and cooks in an 8×8 pan – so its a good way to use up fruit without making a giant pan of something.  Good for small dinner parties or potlucks too.  Enjoy!

Easy Apple Crisp Recipe

Ingredients

  • 5 Prepared Apples peeled & sliced - medium or 4 large - any type work
  • 1/4 C Brown Sugar packed
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 C Water
  • 1 C All Purpose Flour
  • 2/3 C Granulated Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 C Butter softened or margarine -but salted butter is best

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375, spray 8x8 baking pan to keep from sticking
  2. Prepare apples - peel and slice - thickness is up to you but thicker means more cook time. Spread apples evenly in bottom of prepared pan.
  3. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle over apple mixture. Pour water over cinnamon sugar and apples
  4. In same small bowl (now empty) combine flour, cinnamon, granulated sugar and then cut in the softened butter until crumbly. Crumble over the top of the apple mixture
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes - if your apples are sliced thin - probably 30 minutes. I usually start at 30 minutes and add time until the apples are done. Be sure to cool before serving - 10 minutes on a wire rack should do.
