Cream together shortening and sugar, then beat in eggs and vanilla

Sift dry ingredients into egg mixture, stir in 2 Tbsp water, then blend well, but don't over-stir.

DO NOT ADD ANY EXTRA WATER

Fold in raisins, nuts and apples until well distributed

Spray and flour a 13x9 pan

Spread batter evenly with the back of a wet spoon, it will be quite thick

Bake in a 350 degree oven for 60-70 minutes & test for doneness with a toothpick, when toothpick is removed from center of cake and it is clean, the cake is done

Remove from oven and let cool, serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
